A San Francisco native, Jennifer M. Lee is highly sought after as a chamber musician and pedagogue. Currently serving as Staff Pianist at Sonoma State University and the Crowden School in Berkeley, she also was Staff Pianist at Interlochen Center for the Arts and with the Advanced Suzuki Institute's Violin Virtuosi, working with child prodigy Sarah Chang and conductor Guillermo Figueroa. Her passion for chamber music has led to versatile pursuits spanning from duos to full orchestra, including the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, Bloomington Camerata Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra in the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, and Indiana University's New Music Ensemble. Jennifer was a collaborative fellowship pianist at the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, performing with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Kent/Blossom Chamber Orchestra. She was principal keyboardist of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra for three seasons, performing with Maestro Edwin Outwater in renowned venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. These ensembles brought her to perform throughout Europe and the United States, enlarging her scope of keyboard playing on piano, celesta, fortepiano, organ, and synthesizer. As fortepianist at the Valley of the Moon Music Festival, she performed Classical and Romantic works on historically appropriate instruments from the Classical and Romantic eras. Recent chamber music collaborations include concerts at Old First Concerts, The Forte House Concerts, Flower Piano at Golden Gate Park, Musical Meditations Concerts at St. Mary's Cathedral, and the Twilight Series at Throckmorton Theatre.
She had garnered numerous awards, including top prizes in the CAPMT Bartok Festival State Finals Competition, Burlingame Music Club Competition, Fremont Symphony Young Artists Concerto Competition, and Ross McKee Piano Competition. As a concerto soloist, she performed the J.S. Bach Piano Concerto in D minor with the Golden Gate Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, and the Mozart Piano Concerto K. 488 with the Indiana University Orchestra.
She is an active collaborative pianist for concerts, auditions, and competitions with strings, voice, and brass. She received a Master of Music of Piano Performance from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Rice University studying with sought-after pedagogues, Robert Roux and Shigeo Neriki. She was awarded the coveted Dean’s Scholarship and Artistic Excellence Award from Indiana University as well as the President’s Honor Roll, Joyce Wylie Award, and Paul E. Craven Award from Rice University. She won scholarships from both universities. Her most influential pedagogues were Shigeo Neriki, the Grammy-nominated collaborative pianist for Janos Starker and Ivry Gitlis; child prodigy and international renowned pedagogue, Robert Roux; and Dr. William Wellborn at the SF Conservatory Pre-Collegiate Division.
A member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), Jennifer has taught piano in the San Francisco Bay Area, Indiana and Texas. She has taught all levels and ages, and is committed to tailoring to each student's individual needs and having each of their music learning experience be unique and supportive. Her students have also been recognized as winners in regional and international competitions. Sight reading, proper technique and posture, music theory, and producing a beautiful tone are incorporated in her lessons as necessary training for any pianist.
